Nissan is introducing a new and improved Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system that monitors driver’s behavior to keep them from falling asleep while driving. New system will debut with the latest 2016 Nissan Maxima.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drowsy driving causes 5,000 to 6,000 fatal crashes in the US each year.

Nissan’s new DAA system simply monitors the driver, via sensors mounted on the steering wheel and learns their driving behavior to alert when detecting early signs of sleepy behavior. Whenever the driver is about to fall asleep, the DAA system notifies the driver with a sound or showing a coffee cup sign on the dashboard saying “Take a break?”.

In addition to this intelligent security system, 2016 Nissan Maxima comes equipped with a few other systems like Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW) to provide extra protection.
