Paleontologists have discovered a new dinosaur named Lythronax argestes (meaning “Gore King from the Southwest”) which seems to come from the family of the most terrifying dinosaur of all, Tyrannosaurus rex.
The newfound dinosaur is said to be at least 80-million-year-old, standing tall at 24 feet and weighing about 2.5 tons, according to National Geographic. New tyrannosaur is considerably smaller but millions of years older than the 40-feet-tall T-Rex, which lived about 68 million years ago. This discovery sets the age of Tyrannosaur family back to 80 million years.

“Obviously we wanted to get ‘king’ in the name,” said Mark Loewen, the head of the team who discovered the new dinosaur. ”Lythronax wasn’t a direct ancestor of T. rex, but they clearly shared a common ancestor, [one] who lived even longer ago.”
The report in PLOS One explains that Lythronax featured the same looks of T-Rex, including those tiny hands, front-facing eye and long sharp teeth. Hence the name ”King of Gore.” Even though T-Rex still remains as the scariest of all. The shores of western North America was thought to be the once home ground of this new found dinosaur. This make western North America the original home of the tyrannosaurs.
