New York City Plans to Turn Old Payphones Into Free Wi-Fi Hotspots

After going through several concepts for putting the old payphones into good use, the NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg has picked up this particular proposal into consideration, which aims to make use of 10,000 payphones across the city to make a citywide free Wi-Fi network managed by ad revenue. Officials claims that a network with this kind of technology would be able to provide Wi-Fi even during power outages.
