A new video update for developers highlights Amazon’s plans for New World and what players are likely to see from future PTR updates.
Amazon Games’ MMORPG New World will not see a significant content release in February; The team is instead focused on delivering the most bug-free experience feasible.
The news is announced through the New World developer update video featuring several team staff members talking about diverse subjects, from soon-to-be-added systems such as mutators to technical issues that the team is working on.
The fixing of bugs is the top priority of Amazon, and that’s why the game’s February update will not contain any additional content.
“February is simply one month of bug fixes,” senior producer Katy Kaszynski stated. “There’s no significant new content coming in the February update. There are some areas that we’re working on to ensure we have a lot of fixes and create a significant change for the players who have been asking us for updates for quite a while.”
New World has been crippled several times due to numerous bugs, including several instances of gold and item same exploits that resulted in Amazon temporarily removing the entire economy of the game. Some of these problems have now been resolved quickly after being discovered, and there remain several issues that are a priority for the team. Apart from fixing numerous bugged quests, missing ingredients, and other problems, the team is trying to fix server desync issues and make weapon swapping more secure.
One way to iron out the game’s technical glitches will mean giving players an extended time on the public test field–at a minimum of two and a quarter weeks to try out possible bugs and features. This allows the team more time to respond to feedback from players.
“We learned that the first PTR that we had to give ourselves seven days to do it. We thought, “We’ll do some scale testing. We’ll test to ensure that the servers can cope, and we’ll be good,” Kaszynski explained. “What we learned was we weren’t good. We weren’t good. People felt we’d lost their trust. We thought we’d lost their trust, and we’ve been trying to regain it since then, and we’d like to keep doing that by releasing the PTRs long enough in advance so that we can listen to them and take their advice. discover what the most important issues are, and then address these before releasing the game to Live game.”
