New Wearable Smart Devices

Mr. Vineet Taneja, Country Head, IT & Mobile, Samsung India; Mr. Manu Sharma, Director, Mobile, Samsung India and renowned actor Freida Pinto with the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Gear Wearable series in New Delhi.

On March 27, Samsung launched its latest flagship device – the Galaxy S5. Along with the S5, three more gadgets were launched. All three of these are the new additions to Samsung’s wearable Galaxy Gear range. These new Gear devices are Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and the slimmer and lighter model called Gear Fit. These devices are compatible with more Galaxy Smartphones than the Galaxy Gear was. And they also come with more customization options than the original Gear smartwatch.

These smartwatches run on Tizen based operating platform. They are IP67 Dust and Water Resistant, have super AMOLED Display. All three of these new Gear watches allow some customization of appearance by changeable strap and the various customization options for the Home Screen background, clock face and font. Gear 2 is available in Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange colours. Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit are available in Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange.

Out of these three new Gear products, only Gear 2 is equipped with a camera. And unlike the original Gear, Gear 2 has the camera on its main body, instead of the strap. The new Gear smartwatches also have a Home button for easier navigation through the device.

Using Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, users can easily accept or ignore calls and messages and also use these watches to control compatible electronic products like TV, set-top box through WatchON Remote Application. Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are also equipped with a standalone music player with Bluetooth headset. Using this feature, the users can listen to their music even when away from their smartphone.

The devices also have some features designed to help the user maintain a healthier lifestyle. These include features like Pedometer and Heart Rate monitor.

Samsung Gear Fit is the industry’s first curved Super AMOLED wearable device. It is slim and light weight and looks quite sleek and stylish. It has been designed to contour around the wearer’s wrist. Besides making available features designed to help the user stay fit, Gear Fit also acts as a companion device to smartphone by providing instant notifications of incoming calls, emails, SMS, alarm, S-planner etc, and also access to various 3rd party apps.

All these new Gear devices will be available across India from 11th April, 2014. Galaxy Gear 2 is priced at Rs. 21,900/- while Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and Galaxy Gear Fit are priced at Rs. 15,900/- each.
