The upcoming game Artemis, which was made by the same people who made PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, fully embraces the metaverse.
Brendan Greene, who made the very popular battle royale game PUBG, has said that his next project will focus a lot on the metaverse.
Greene, who is 45 years old, told Hit Points in an interview that his new game, Artemis, will have NFTs, the metaverse, and blockchain technology.
“I’m just going to do what I’m going to do,” Greene said. “But it doesn’t matter if it’s called the metaverse. I don’t care what people want to call it.”
In Artemis’s large and open world, players will reportedly be able to do whatever they want. Blockchain technology will also be used as part of this change.
Because of the debate in the industry about NFTs and blockchain technology, they are no longer used in games like Minecraft. Both Ubisoft and Steam have given up on their NFT projects. Steam has also made it illegal for games to use blockchain technology.
Greene says, “The only way [Artemis] can exist is if it’s made for everyone,” which suggests that the creators of Artemis are not trying to make money. Even though this is true, he did confirm that players will be able to “extract value” from their creations by trading or selling them to other players.
In Artemis’s huge open world, players will reportedly be able to do whatever they want. But it looks like this project will soon use blockchain technology.
Greene said, “Just do it.” However, the name “metaverse” is irrelevant. No matter what people want to call it, I don’t mind.
Companies from all kinds of industries are working together to make fun of the metaverse, which has been getting more popular lately. Walmart’s plan to attract millennials by joining the Roblox metaverse was just made public.
At this time, we don’t fully understand anything else about Artemis or its metaverse part. But the widespread use of blockchain technology is likely to start a discussion.
