New Music from Lindsay Ell, Mickey Guyton, Jojo Mason, Olivia Lunny, and Catholic Guilt
The New Music Spotlight is back with five songs fresh to the world that we think you all should give a shot.
The list starts with country from two Canadians and an American and then we go to an emerging pop star from Winnipeg and a punk rock outfit from down under in Melbourne.
Hit play on all five songs for a listen and let us know what you think about them. And don't forget to add your favourites to your playlists.
Ready? Let's go!
Artist: Lindsay Ell
Hometown: Calgary, AB
Genre: Country
Related Artists: Carrie Underwood, Meghan Patrick, Jess Moskaluke
Song: ReadY to love
Notes: The 2020 CCMA Female Artist of the Year nominee is back with another new track from her upcoming album, heart theory (August 14, 2020) and ReadY to love is just another example of both her talent and rise in country music. The optimism in the track is infectious and her smile and playful movements and dancing in the visualizer video is a perfect match in happy yellows. Hit play and be ready to smile along with her.
Artist: Mickey Guyton
Hometown: Arlington, TX
Genre: Country
Related Artists: Cam, Tenille Townes, Sacha
Song: Heaven Down Here
Notes: In sports we talk about players who rise to meet a moment, in country music right now, nobody is rising to meet the moment like Mickey Guyton is - and Heaven Down Here is just the next shining example. A prayer for hope, peace, and love in the form of a country song when so many people need it, the song is sung beautifully and shows us once again that Mickey is the real deal.
Artist: Jojo Mason
Hometown: Regina, SK
Genre: Country
Related: Andrew Hyatt, Shawn Austin, Chris Buck Band
Song: Chemical
Notes: Jojo Mason is back with Chemical and he nails it with an upbeat track that will make you want to reach for the volume so you can turn it up. Jojo's high energy spirit shines through on this one, and has me closing my eyes and imagining his smile as he sings it live on stage as soon as he has a chance.
Artist: Olivia Lunny
Hometown: Winnipeg, MN
Genre: Pop
Related Artists: Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine, Edith, TESSA
Song: Hold Me
Notes: Olivia Lunny's new EP To The Ones I Loved is on the way (August 28, 2020) and Hold Me comes as the third pre-release single from the collection. The former winner from The Launch, Lunny continues to grow in her sound and presentation with her pop releases and Hold Me keeps that going. With an electronic base layer, the track moves continuously for its 2:52 runtime and allows her voice to shine over top of it.
Artist: Catholic Guilt
Hometown: Melbourne, AU
Genre: Punk/Rock
Related Artists: The Dead Love, Answering Machine, LOSER
Song: A Boutique Affair
Notes: The line "It's hard to make friends in your twenties, it's even hard to make 'em in your thirties" is a harsh shot across the bow to start A Boutique Affair - but it ain't wrong. The Aussie rockers get a little dark in this one, but the subject matter doesn't drag down a song that still rocks out when it wants to. With their new EP This Is What Honesty Sounds Like (August 28, 2020) on the way, Catholic Guilt have my attention and I'm looking forward to the rest.
