New Girl 1x03: Wedding

Original Air Date: 4 October 2011

Storyline: The guys are invited to a wedding of a mutual friend. Nick, fearful he will run into his ex-girlfriend Caroline, asks Jess to be his date. Meanwhile, Winston takes his role as an usher very seriously and gets competitive on the dance floor with a young guest. Schmidt not only catches the eye of a beautiful woman, but also his "frenemy" Gretchen, whom he sleeps with at every wedding reception.Best Quote:

Schmidt: We don't want to be mean, we just don't want you to be yourself...in any way.
Jess: Okay. Suppress the Jess. Got it.

She's Adorkable! So when I do the chicken dance I do it a little differently. Instead of doing claps, I like to do a peck. It's more realistic.Review: I'm starting to wonder if the comedy died with Damon Wayans Jr., because so far, the pilot was the best episode. This one was better than "Kryptonite", but it still didn't deliver as many laughs as the first installment. I'm still very much in love with Jess and Nick is my favorite of the guys, but I'm starting to get bored of Schmidt always chasing after women - if you're not Barney Stinson, then don't pretend! - and Winston hasn't grown on me.

"Suppress the Jess" was one funny line! Can we talk about Zoey's dress for a little bit? She was damn sexy and you're hearing this from a very straight girl! But combining that dress with the prop teeth was simply hilarious, as was the slow motion chicken dance.
I liked the idea of Jess posing as Nick's girlfriend - and on the long term, these two might make a cute couple (I'm not one of those who see her with Schmidt). But I was under the impression that Nick had gotten over Caroline in the pilot, so I feel like this plot is seriously dragging. As much as I love Jess getting serious and giving him advice, I hope it's the last time we see Nick crying over Caroline. It's not a sexy image for him.
I wasn't too excited about Schmidt's arc. I usually like Natasha Lyonne, but she was quite disturbing in this episode. On the other hand, the "fat Schmidt" was very revealing, character-wise. I was wondering how he got to be such a horn-dog.
As for Winston, being unemployed is an every day challenge as he looks at being the usher at the wedding as a real job. Poor guy, I hope we see more of his coping with being an ex-basketball player who couldn't even make it in Latvia.
The show seems to slowly find its rhythm, but I'm still waiting for it to go back to being really hilarious. I hope the pilot was not the exception.New Girl 1x02: Kryptonite Back to Season 1
