Casio has adopted a brand new asymmetrical design for its Gravitymaster range of high performance watches that takes one of the most popular design styles from the Frogman range of diving watches and applies it to the aerospace-oriented models. The GRB200 follows previous Gravitymaster watches by also having a Bluetooth connection.
The multiple buttons on the case are arranged at different angles to make pressing them more natural, especially when wearing gloves. The overall design mimics the look of an airplane's joystick. It's an eye-catching look, especially when paired with the blue or orange resin ribbons, although there is a black version if you prefer something incognito.
G-Shock chose its Carbon Core Guard construction for the case itself. The blend of carbon fiber and resin is extremely strong and almost certainly allowed the designers to use relatively small guards around these giant buttons without sacrificing durability. A semi-transparent cover layer has been applied to the bezel, which makes the carbon fabric underneath visible.
Connect the GRB200 to your smartphone and the G-Shock Connected app, and you can access the mission log feature which pulls elevation data from the watch and GPS data from the phone to draw a flight course. There is also a waypoint navigation feature where the watch's second hand points to a specified location marked in the app. Like the recent Mudmaster watches, the Gravitymaster counts steps and calories, but also adds altitude data. You can also use the app to change the world time, set timers and activate the stopwatch.
The GRB200 is not a top-of-the-range G-Shock and therefore does not have the brand's Tough Solar charging feature. Instead, a battery is required to function. However, it does not need to be charged and should be at least a few years before it needs replacing. This is a G-Shock, so it has a water resistance of 200 meters and can withstand bumps and vibrations. The quad sensor array has a thermometer, altimeter / barometer, compass, and accelerometer.
G-Shock will release the new Gravitymaster GRB200 watch in September when it costs $ 350.
