President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed 17 new Cabinet Ministers at President’s House, Fort yesterday morning. There was no change in the portfolios held by the President, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Finance Minister Ali Sabry, PC.
Former Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena took oaths as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government. Minister Douglas Devananda also took oaths as the Minister of Fisheries.
Former Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana was also sworn in as the Minister of Education and Plantation Industries while former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga took oaths as Minister of Public Security and Tourism.
The other Ministers were: Dilum Amunugama – Transport, Industries, Kanaka Herath–Highways, Vidura Wickramanayaka– Labour, Janaka Wakkumbura – Agriculture, Irrigation, Shehan Semasinghe – Trade, Samurdhi Development, Mohan Priyadarshana De Silva – Water Supply, Wimalaweera Dissanayake–Wildlife and Forest Conservation, Kanchana Wijesekera– Energy, Power, Thenuka Vidanagamage-Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa – Mass Media, Professor Channa Jayasumana – Health, Naseer Ahamed–Environment, Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon – Ports and Shipping.
