There is nothing overly negative in "Enola Holmes," a new film about Sherlock Holmes' younger sister, Enola. But there's nothing particularly good about it either.
The film was originally slated for a Warner Bros. release, but Netflix picked it up earlier this year after the pandemic closed theaters around the world.
"Enola Holmes" sees Millie Bobby Brown as the titular teenage detective, alongside Henry Cavill as Sherlock, and they're both ... okay? Neither seems to be phoning, and Cavill is downright charming at times. And although Brown admitted he struggled to regain his English accent, he brings a lot of energy to his role, which includes many monologues that break through the fourth wall that fill audiences on the backstory and explain the solutions to not particularly baffling mysteries.
As we explain in the latest episode of the Original Content podcast, the film seems competent in virtually every respect, yet thoroughly inspired, leaving us disappointed with the results - Anthony to the point where he walked up and down the room and wondered about his life choices. . But hey, maybe the kids will enjoy watching it?
