Netflix is rushing into the biopic series niche. The platform announces via its Brazilian branch the upcoming production of an eight-part miniseries dedicated to the legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna. Made famous both for his three World Championship titles and for his ease at the wheel, the latter became legendary on May 1, 1994 when he was killed in a terrible accident on the sidelines of the Grand Prix of San Marino in Italy.

The subject of an award-winning documentary by Asif Kapadia in 2010, notably at Sundance, Ayrton Senna still remains among the most popular Brazilian sportsmen today; to guarantee the authenticity of the project, supported by his family, the mini-series will be shot in several countries, and in particular in his hometown of Sao Paolo, in both English and Portuguese. "It's something very special to be able to announce that we are going to tell the story that not many people know about him. The Senna family are involved in this totally unique and unprecedented project. And no one else but Netflix, which has an international reach, could not have been our partner " Ayrton's sister Vivanne Senna said in an official statement (via Variety).

Still in the preparation phase, the mini-series will probably be shot next year, with a view to being broadcast in 2022 exclusively on Netflix.
