Sometimes irrespective of all the safety measures we take to protect our skin from the sun, we land up burning ourselves. It may have been because we left too much gap in between reapplications of sunscreen or we just figured that our skin would bear the heat. Now that the damage is already done, it can’t be reversed. But there are some remedies that can be found in our own homes.
- A long soak in the bathtub-Soak yourself in a bath of cool water. Do not add soap, as it would dry out your skin. Add a few spoons of baking soda or oatmeal to the water to soothe your skin.
- Yogurt-One of the simplest ways to beat the burns is by applying plain yogurt to all the affected areas and to shower it off later.
- Aloe Vera-Moisturize your skin, especially using creams or gels containing aloe vera. Aloe Vera gives you a cool feeling and reduces the sting from your sunburn.
- Green Mint Tea-Pour cooled brewed green mint tea over the affected areas to cool and heal the burns, which also helps restore the pH balance in the skin.
- Vitamin E capsule-Split open Vitamin E capsules and apply it directly to the skin to speedup the healing process.
- Vinegar-An age old fix for sunburn is vinegar. Dip a cloth in vinegar and apply over the irritable areas.
- Drink up-Don’t forget to hydrate yourself at all times. Water is known to heal the skin and body both internally and externally. Give your body back what it lost.
- Potato Juice-Potato juice if applied to the skin reduces inflammation caused by sunburn and also relieves the pain.
- Honey-The Egyptian kings found relief in applying honey to sunburns. I’m sure the same remedy would work for us too.
- Cold compress-The easiest way to treat a burn is to apply a cool compress. Try using milk instead of cool water, as it quickens the healing.
- Cucumber-Cucumbers are full of antioxidant properties. Mash up a few of them and apply as a face and body mask.
- Coconut Oil-Coconut oil has a cooling nature and is ideal for pain relief in burns.
Now remember to stay safe and sun protected at all times. It’s better to be safer than sorry.
