National Wrapping Day!

By Cassiefairy @Cassiefairy

I can now safely start getting really excited about Christmas. I’ve opened my advent calendar, all the Christmas lights have been switched on in town centres around the country, and my Christmas cards have been posted. So now my attention has turned to presents and, in particular, wrapping them!

Did you know there’s a National Wrapping Day? It’s on the 14th December and this is the day that most people in the UK will be making a start on their festive wrapping. It celebrates the joy of perfect present wrapping and as you can probably guess from my previous DIY wrapping paper post, wrapping gifts is one of my favorite activities.

I love gathering together all my wrapping goodies; the paper (I’ve gone for a Christmas jumper knit pattern this year), bows, ribbon, tags, colourful pens, scissors, and tape – especially now that I have my Scotch Pop-Up Tape dispenser, which has considerably cut down the time and effort that wrapping takes, so much so that I’ve given one to my mom to use for her festive wrapping too!

The process of neatly wrapping gifts and adorning them with bows and gift tags is so relaxing, and even tackling tricky shaped presents is really satisfying. There are plenty of tips and ‘how-to’ videos on the National Wrapping Day website, which has helped make wrapping oddly-shaped gifts a breeze, and there’s even ideas for neatly wrapping clothing that I would have never come up with myself.

When I was browsing the site, I spotted that there are plenty of prizes to be won by simply nominating an unusual-shaped gift to be wrapped by the website on National Wrapping Day so I’ve taken part and nominated a kitchen mixer to be wrapped in the hope that I will win it, which will help me with my own festive baking!

After putting up the Christmas tree at the weekend it was looking a little bare at the base of the tree, so I wanted to add a few presents to finish off the display, as well as getting a head-start on my pile of gift-wrapping. So after a happy half-hour of wrapping, I’d finished all the gifts for my niece and nephew, and popped them into these festive postal sacks that I found at poundland last weekend.

It’s looking much more festive beneath my Christmas tree and I’m bursting to wrap more gifts but first I need to go shopping again! Let me know when you’ll be wrapping your presents and I’d be interested to hear how you’ll be tackling difficult-shaped gifts so please leave me a comment or tweet me photos of your fabulous wrapping ideas to @Cassiefairy - and be sure to check out the National Wrapping Day website too!
