This month is all about comfort food makeovers, and apple pie has to be on the menu.
Nasoya had perfect timing for this comfort food calorie cleanup when they sent me an offer to review their products, which just happened to include egg roll wrappers – perfect for apple hand pies.
A typical serving of pie crust weighs in at approximately 100 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 12 carbs. A serving of Nasoya Egg Roll Wraps contains 66 calories, .2 grams of fat, and 12 carbs.
There’s definitely a calorie and fat savings there!
No worries there, as you can see, when they come out of the oven they are baked to a golden perfection, and the apples and cinnamon are just as fragrant as your grandma’s famous apple pie.
The wrappers are easy to work with, so your kids can fill them, fold them, and bake them all by themselves (with a bit of mom or dad supervision, of course).
Here’s a big thank you to Nasoya for sharing their terrific products with me, so I can share them with you!
Enjoy your apple hand pies!

- 4 cups apples , diced into small pieces
- 2 tablespoon sugar, divided
- ½ tablespoon whole wheat pastry flour
- ¼ cup water
- 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Preheat the oven to 350 and spray a non-stick cookie sheet with cooking spray.
- Combine apples, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, flour and water in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 8 - 10 minutes until apples are soft.
- Combine1 tablespoons sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Get a small bowl of water to brush the edges of wrappers with.
- Place a wrapper on your work surface with one point facing towards you. Lightly brush the edges with water. Place ½ cup apple mixture (take care not to include juices from the apples, or your hand pies will be soggy) in the middle of a wrapper, then fold to create a triangle. Press the edges lightly with a fork to seal.
- Place on the cookie sheet, and light spray with cooking spray. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Bake for 15 - 20 minutes until lightly browned.
