For the seventh day of NaPoWriMo 2020, I have chosen the tanka.
The tanka, which contains 31 syllables, follows the 5 / 7 / 5 / 7 / 7 syllable pattern. It has two distinct parts: The first 3 lines (upper phrase) depict the world of nature, while the remaining lines (lower phrase) convey a personal emotion or feeling. The third line can be a pivot.
Tanks mostly deal with nature and love, the impermanence of life, relationships or the author's situation. Similes, metaphors and personification can be used. All in all, a beautiful poetry form!
