NAILBITER #2 Review

Last month I reviewed Nailbiter #1 and kept referring to it as horror.  I’ve been told that it is not a horror comic.  Look, it deals with serial killers who eat fingernails, wear masks and do sick, disgusting things.  If you don’t think that is horror then perhaps you have a problem.

Last issue we left off with Sheriff Crane and Finch arriving at the door of Edward Warren with him covered in blood.  When you see how this guy slaughters his cows, you will understand why.  We also find out that Sheriff Crane and Warren have a history and he isn’t afraid to try and pull her strings.  The mystery of where Finch’s friend Carroll is continues with a possible break that actually causes more questions.  That is left hanging for another issue as Crane and Finch have another death to investigate.

Even though this is not my favorite genre, Williamson has hooked me.  I love the mystery that is building, I think he has put together an interesting group of characters that propel the story forward.  At no point do things drag or even pause as it seems everything is paced perfectly.  I’m finding myself wanting to know more about this towns history and all of the serial killers that have come from here and we get a little more of that backstory here.  I hope that this book takes us through all of them as Williamson has crafted some pretty sick and twisted stuff, but they are pretty inventive.  The Terrible Two, the Blonde and The Cross Bones Killer join the ones mentioned in issue #1 and the list just keeps getting better.
