My Sony Summer Travel Gadget Wish List

By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy

I’m already plotting my summer travel plans around the Philippines and Asia. And if you’ve been reading this blog for some time, you’d know that I can’t survive any trip without an array of gadgets to document my trips, be entertained on the road, and of course, be connected with everyone. Recently, Sony Philippines showed us their products perfect for the summer, and I honestly wanted a lot of them. Below, I blog my top picks. Read more…

The theme of their summer campaign this year is Splash, Look, and Listen. Sony Philippines has once again come up with a selection of stylish and sophisticated gadgets to make every summer adventure fun, exciting, and worth remembering.

SPLASH

Sony has products that are either waterproof, splash-proof, or even underwater. What caught my attention was the Xperia Z because I am a die-hard Xperia fan.

To be launched here in the Philippines come April 2013, the much-awaited smartphone combines the best of Sony in terms of premium design and technology, housed in a sexy but durable body that’s dust and water resistant. I can’t wait to bring this to my next adventure!

Foremost, it features a 13-megapixel camera with Exmor RS for mobile, the world’s first image sensor with HDR video for smartphones that allows capturing of razor sharp and crystal clear stills and movies even against strong light. It also has the world’s sharpest 5” smartphone display, powered by full HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. And inside is a 1.5 GHz asynchronous quad-core Snapdragon S4 fast processor with 2GB RAM.

The Xperia Z, with a compact version Xperia ZL, will come with Android 4.1 (Jellybean) and in black, white, and purple colors. The Xperia Z and ZL will be shortly upgraded to Android 4.2.

Sony is proud of the easy connectivity among its products, and the Xperia line is an integral part of that wireless environment. The Xperia Z experience is much better with the splash-proof Xperia Tablet S, which as I found out is already available here in the Philippines.

It has a 9.4” OptiContrast display housed in a slim aluminum body. A duo of cameras, eight megapixels on the rear and one megapixel on the front, provide sharp, clear images for photos, videos, chats, and more. Inside, it is equipped with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor for faster operation and ClearAudio+ with other 3D surround sound technologies.

What makes it perfect for travelers is that it allows easy and convenient sharing of photos, videos, and music over the cloud and to other devices. Moreover, unlike other tablets, its memory is expandable with an SD card, and it does come with a host of custom accessories that would be apt for a mobile, traveling lifestyle.

LOOK

Since I blog my trips, I have to capture and store memorable moments. I’ve always had my eyes on Sony’s line of simplified and compact professional cameras, the Alpha NEX. During the launch, I was excited to try their new model, the NEX-6.

The NEX-6 may be compact, but it can produce DSLR-quality images and full HD video from its newly-developed large 16.1 effective megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and its high sensitivity of up to ISO 25600. It has a new Fast Hybrid AF for optimally fast and precise autofocus in any situation and a DSLR-like AF tracking for shooting of up to 10 fps. Additionally, it has an XGA OLED Tru-Finder complemented by a 3” Xtra-Fine LCD, intuitive DSLR-style operation with dual dials and Quick Navi interface, easy image sharing through wi-fi, and a built-in flash with Multi-Interface Shoe.

By the way, the NEX line of compact professional cameras can be armed with E-mount lenses of different specifications. With the impressive test shots I did during the event, I’m actually very excited to bring an NEX-6 to some of my trips this summer!

LISTEN

I’m an audiophile, and so whenever I’m on the road, even while tinkering with apps, I listen to my playlist. Of course, music is better with awesome audio equipment, and thankfully, our friends from Sony Philippines had me try the MDR-1 range of premium headphones.

Through a close and unique partnership with Sony Music Entertainment, Sony released the MDR-1 premium headphones in three versions: standard, noise-cancelling, and Bluetooth wireless with NFC. All these variants feature a 40mm Liquid Crystal Polymer Film diaphragm for a balanced, highly accurate reproduction of sound and specially-engineered HD driver units for ultra-wideband audio performance that can extend from 4Hz to 80kHz.

Aside from the high-quality sound output that’s sure to keep up with the HD demand of audio sources nowadays, what I like about the MDR-1 headphones is the cutting-edge design and ergonomic fit—two qualities that are equally vital for us travelers. For sure, these headphones will liven up those lazy days hanging out by the beach!

So this summer, head on over to the nearest Sony Philippines shop or dealer to check out these hot gadgets! For more details and to see where to get them, check out www.sony.com.ph. Don’t forget to follow them on Facebook and Twitter!
