I’ve had long hair since I can remember. Sure- I’ve gone a little short here and there, but overall I tend to stick with wavy, flowing locks. I think it’s time for a change.
We’ve been seeing uber-long hair for years now and here in New York, those layers of 2013 are making way to angular, sleek bobs and lobs. I think everyone’s a little sick of the Kim Kardashian mermaid look and I’m jumping on the train! I even photoshopped this baby on my face, and I have to say I’m obsessed. (Will post an update in 2 weeks when I take the plunge!)
Before….potential…after??
If you’re not sure which bob or lob is for you.. look no further. If you’re skilled with photoshop, I would recommend digitally trying the look on before you commit. Post it on Facebook or Instagram to get 2nd and 3rd opinions. It’s a little silly and embarrassing, but it helps! Now, for my favorite short hair looks:
Wavy & Cool
If you were big into the 2013 look of beachy, ombre waves, then this is for you. It’s just as relaxed and sexy, but updated with a shorter flow. Alexa Chung’s messy waves and Ciara’s perfect “I woke up like dis” coif are fuss-free and beautiful.
Retro & Voluminous
Go back to the root of the bob and be inspired by the short hairstyles of the 1920s and 1950s. Think Daisy Buchanan’s glossy locks or Marilyn Monroe’s voluminous curls. I love Rose Byrne’s 1960′s inspired side swept bangs. She looks gorgeous!
Sleek & Chic
My favorite? Keeping it urban with an angular shoulder-length bob. I love how both these styles have a side-part that’s not too dramatic. A slight wave keeps it modern and imperfectly sexy.
Vibrant & Vivacious
Feeling ballsy? Go for a fashion-forward dye job like Nicole Richie’s etherial lavender bob or Kylie Jenner’s electric blue. Not for the faint of heart, these looks ooze confidence. As a color-virgin I won’t be following in their footsteps, but can’t deny how freakin’ amazing these two ladies look!
