So since we are renters I am waiting to invest in planting in the ground or raised beds until we buy our own home…ps…we are house-hunting – so exciting!
We were given the huge pots which are perfect for my herbs. I prefer clay or terra-cotta over plastic (since we are growing food, I don’t like the chemicals leeching in).
One of them didn’t have a drainage hole in the bottom, so Hank drilled some out for me.
I filled them with old glass bottles (also to avoid the plastic leeching from using other fillers), plus, they are free!. So I saved money on potting soil and kept from throwing away all that glass, as our city doesn’t accept glass for recycling.
I bought some beautiful sweet basil at the Farmer’s Market, which I snipped right after planting, so we are having pesto over shrimp for dinner tonight…yum!
I also bought a mojito mint plant…I mean, if I can’t have a mojito right now, at least I can chew on the mint leaves or crush them in water with lime juice, right? A parsley plant also seemed appropriate…still searching for cilantro.
I also attempted to revive a struggling rosemary that my mother in law bought for me at Christmas. It’s been looking sad as of late, so I’m hoping the fresh air and sunshine will improve it’s position.
Flowers for prettiness….I’m in love.
Oh, and I almost forgot this sweet blueberry bush – also purchased at the Farmer’s Market…dug up from the ground just a few miles from here. I can not wait to harvest our own!
live well. be well.
