It’s been awhile since my last henna. One of the reasons is that the process is rather time consuming. You really need to block out a chunk of your day or night to do it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s worth it, as you can see in my My First Henna and subsequent So I Tried Henna Again posts.
I decided to try Henna gloss for 2 reasons, from what I’ve read the process is shorter, and because you’re mixing the henna with conditioner, clean up (of both your hair and your bathroom) is easier.
It’s true.
Here’s what I did:
Henna Gloss Mix Recipe
- 1 box Jamila henna
- 2 cups (approx) steeped green tea
- 1 cup thick conditioner (ex.-AOHSR )
- 1.5 cups thinner conditioner (ex. – Suave Tropical or Trader Joe’s Tea Tree)
- Plastic bowl (not metal)
- Spoon or spatula
Directions:
Empty henna powder into bowl and add cooled green tea until mixture has the consistency of cake frosting. Then add both types of conditioner and mix well. The consistency should be like cake or pancake batter at this point.
1 box of Jamila Henna
1/2 c. “thinner” conditioner
adding 1/2 cup of “thick” conditioner to rest of ingredients
Cover and let sit for a few hours. (I let mine sit overnight) In the morning the mixture was thick like cake icing again, which is good because that means less drippies. I applied it exactly the same way I did my last henna treatment and I left it in for about 4 hours. Rinsing it out was incredibly easy, and it only took two or three rinses with my Suave Tropical Coconut condish to get it all out. I then deep conditioned by mixing Aubrey Oragnics Honey Suckle Rose conditioner with coconut oil, water, jojoba oil and 1 tbsp of raw honey. Left that in for another couple of hours and then rinsed.
The color wasn’t as intense as it usually is when I do a regular henna treatment, but my hair was incredibly soft.
I like soft. ^__^
