My First Visit to The Brown Fox, Definitely Not My Last!

By Foodie Cravings @foodiecravings

I visited The Brown Fox for the very first time for their Ciders & Slider night during Eat Drink Perth and absolutely loved it. I have been following these guys on social media for years and get all sorts of cravings from their foodie pics so it was good to finally get there to try it for myself!

The Lazy Dog Cider which was a scrumpy style (cloudy) cider was light, sweet and easy to drink. The Brown Fox tells us The Lazy Dog Cider is a crowd favourite, after having one, their customers just keep going back for more. I completely understand why – it is so refreshing! Due to licensing The Lazy Dog cider is only available for to take away or drink on the premises at The Brown Fox.

The Brown Fox’s owner Greg Eastwood explained that cider is a wine made with fruit so like wine, the best way to drink cider is by sniffing, sipping, swirling & swishing. Greg also told us the easiest way to make cider was by combining apple juice with yeast and putting the lid on then waiting two weeks.

This same method is in a nutshell how The Brown Fox brews The Lazy Dog Cider using Harvey Fresh Apple Juice.

During the evening we were served three sliders to match our ciders. I was so impressed with the lengths Head Chef Osman Winn went to match the sliders to the ciders on offer!

The crispy pork belly in the pork, crackling & granny apple slaw slider was cooked 12hrs in apple cider to match The Lazy Dog apple cider.

The Hills Cider Company’s apple and ginger cider was matched with a beef floss, daikon & ginger slider. The beef floss was cooked in a hot Thai sauce for 12-14 hours then shredded & fluffed up.

The Hills Cider Company’s  pear cider was matched with a slow cooked lamb & poached pears (in The Hills Pear cider) slider.

The venue manager Chris referred to The Brown Fox as a simple gastro bar. The setting is modern, they brew their own lazy dog apple cider and the sliders we tasted were quality! burger boy will love The Brown Fox so it’s earmarked for our next date night (it’s been awhile!).

The Brown Fox run these fun classes on Tuesday nights. Classes vary from cocktails, wine, whisky to cider. Details in the poster below, to book into the next one just give the guys a call on 9425 5222.
