My Classics Club Spin List

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

Better late than never!  I decided at the last minute to sign up for the Classics Club Spin #5.  I already have too much on my reading list but I always want to push myself to read more classics.  What’s the Spin?   I choose 20 classics from my Classics Club Challenge list, in any order, and this Monday the Classics Club will choose a number.  I agree to read that book sometime in February or March.

  1. East of Eden — John Steinbeck
  2. Far From the Madding Crowd — Thomas Hardy
  3. Jane Eyre — Charlotte Bronte
  4. Kim — Rudyard Kipling
  5. Leaves of Grass – Walt Whitman
  6. Light in August — William Faulkner
  7. Mrs. Dalloway — Virginia Woolf
  8. Number the Stars — Lois Lowry
  9. Of Human Bondage — Somerset Maugham
  10. Song of Solomon – Toni Morrison
  11. Tender is the Night — F. Scott Fitzgerald
  12. The Awakening — Kate Chopin
  13. The Catcher in the Rye – JD Salinger
  14. The End of the Affair — Graham Greene
  15. The Good Earth — Pearl S. Buck
  16. The Haunting of Hill House — Shirley Jackson
  17. The House of Mirth — Edith Wharton
  18. The House of Spirits — Isabel Allende
  19. The Portrait of a Lady — Henry James
  20. The Trumpeter of Krakow — Eric Kelly

I’m hoping to get a book that works for some of my other challenges as well, and since I’m also in grad school I wouldn’t mind something on the lighter side.  I’m most intimidated by William Faulkner, Somerset Maugham, and Rudyard Kipling.  I read Jane Eyre years ago and don’t have fond memories, but I’ve always felt it’s a book I need to reread.

We’ll see what I get!  What do you recommend?
