No, no, not 'SoD', he stopped being a baby eighteen months ago! I mean my old desk-top computer which has been in for a complete rejuvenation and I just wish they could do the same for me. Unfortunately, the 'stroke' it suffered knocked out some of its memory and I fear that I have lost some basic information like telephone numbers and addresses and so forth. On the up-side - at least, I think it's an up-side - it has been injected with monkey glands which has brought it up to MS 8.1 standard. I had a quick go last night and needless to say I failed dismally. It doesn't do anything the way it used to so it's like starting all over again - which is not good for my blood pressure! However, I can proclaim one triumph in that I managed to reconnect the plethora of cables and plugs that go in the back of the machine. Of course, I had to do it whilst lying on my side under the desk with a torch clamped in my teeth and a titchy screwdriver in my hand but thanks to bags of Brit pluck and determination, plus considerable bad language and at least three bumps on the head - why do they put so much metal in the frames of those computer desks? - the job was done. Alas, only one of my two screens was working and - natch! - it was the tiny one I hardly ever use but a quick call to 'SoD' solved the problem.
Even so, a quick click around convinced me that it is 'back to school' time for me so I must make do with the Memsahib's laptop until I have passed my 'entrance exam'! Actually, today I am finishing my good deed for the year. Last Saturday I drove a very elderly and sick lady who is also a very dear old friend down to the coast to stay in a hotel/clinic for a week as a sort of holiday and today I must pick her up and take her back to London, so I will be absent until tomorrow when you will hear the bell ring for round two of Duff vs. MS 1.8.
