My 20 Books of Summer

By Curlygeek04 @curlygeek04

746 Books is once again hosting Twenty Books of Summer, which is a good way to think about and organize my summer reading.  I hope I’ll be able to cover more than 20 books by September 3, but it’s always hard to stick to a list when you hear about new and exciting books.  My list is a mix of Baileys Prize books, classics, around-the-world reads, science fiction, and just a few books I’ve been wanting to get to.  Most of these are books I own already, which is a good thing.

Books from the Bailey’s Prize shortlist:

  1. Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo
  2. The Power by Naomi Alderman
  3. First Love by Gwendoline Riley

Books on current events/ state of the country:

  1. Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance
  2. Dark Money by Jane Mayer

Classics:

  1. Orlando by Virginia Woolf
  2. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas

Science fiction and fantasy:

  1. Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
  2. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
  3. Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer
  4. A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers
  5. Bloodchild by Octavia Butler

Reading around the world:

  1. Behold the Dreamers by Obolo Mbue
  2. Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
  3. The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen
  4. Brick Lane by Monica Ali
  5. The Infatuations by Javier Marias

And a few that I couldn’t categorize:

  1. Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
  2. Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson
  3. Miss Kopp’s Midnight Confessions by Amy Stewart

And three alternates just in case:

  • Reading the Bones by Sheila Finch
  • Conservation of Shadows by Yoon Ha Lee
  • Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor

So, that’s my reading list for the summer!  Have you read any of these?  What’s on your summer reading list?
