However, tragedy strikes on the set when the director is killed in what looks like an accident. Detective Columbo (Maffei) investigates the incident, which involves looking at everyone on set.

As the party unfolds, a new killer stalks the guests, picking them off one by one. The question becomes who is behind the latest set of murders and why have they targeted the movie?

Verdict on Mutilator 2

Mutilator 2 is a horror slasher following the final days of production behind a remake of a cult classic movie. It sees the original cast return to celebrate the completion, but a new killer is stalking the guests at the wrap party.

This movie takes the legacy sequel in a different direction. It breaks the fourth wall in a way Wes Craven first introduced in the 1990s with New Nightmare. However, having a human killer in the original it offers a question about what the killer wants. The concept is a lot of fun, playing into the cult classic following for people always wanting to know more. When it comes to effects, it keeps the low-budget ones maintaining the 1980s styles for the kills, with a few original ones.

The cast does feel overcrowded, as we have the returning stars, the new cast and crew, along with a host of guests at the party. This can find the movie caught between a celebration of the original and a slasher at a film party. However, away from this, we get a movie that takes the fishing equipment murders in a much more twisted direction than ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. We could easily see this continue a cult classic status behind source material and it will gather a following.

Final Thoughts Mutilator 2 is destined to continue the cult classic status.
