Must See Places in Ontario

By Twothirstytravellers @2thirstytrav

Ontario is such a vast region that offers many things for travellers to explore. This can make it hard to pick what to do there. I was lucky enough to explore this beautiful region and here are some top highlights that I would recommend to any traveler who’s planning on visiting this beautiful region of Canada.

Niagara Falls

You can’t visit Ontario without taking a day trip to the famous Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls offer many different spectacular waterfalls but on the Canadian side you get to view the biggest of them all, the famous Horse Shoe falls. Don’t forget that you’ll probably want to spend a few days exploring Ontario, as Niagara Falls will take up at least one day, so choose a great hotel as your base. I personally liked Kitchener hotels so check them out.

Toronto Island

Toronto is the largest city in Canada and is a great place to visit. But if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city then, in a ten minute ferry ride you can be in the peace and quiet of the Toronto Islands. The islands are completely carless making the islands even more serine. Pack and picnic and soak in the magnificent views of the city.

Howl at the moon

Sounds weird I know but if you want to get in touch with your primal side then you can join in on the weekly gathering to howl at the moon in the Algonquin Provincial Park, just like the wolves. Meet at the park’s outdoor theater where you will watch a slide show on these majestic creatures and then drive to where you may be lucky enough to get a response to your calls.

Visit the sleeping giant in Thunder Bay

This has been listed as one of the seven wonders in Canada and is a must see when visiting the Ontario region. This natural rock peninsula looks like a sleeping giant when viewed from afar.

Go to an ice hockey game

Ice Hockey is the national sport of Canada and you can’t visit the area without experiencing the passion from the fans at a local game. When in Toronto go visit the local team The Maple Leaf’s. Get your screaming voice ready to shout and yell with all the passionate fans.

Take a boat tour of 1000 islands

We all know the famous salad dressing so you can’t go to Ontario without visiting the region where this amazing mayonnaise originated from. Located on the St Lawerence River, this beautiful historic region is great to explore by boat, offering great views of the 1,864 islands, with ancient castles, clear waters and sandy beaches.

Killarney Provincial Park

Enjoy the pink granite coast of Georgina Bay or the white quartzite ridges of La Cloche Mountain. The colours alone are the reason this park has been used to inspire many masterpieces from local artists.

Take in the sites and sounds of Canada’s largest city, Toronto

Toronto is a great cosmopolitan city and offers something for everyone. You can see a show at one of their many theatres, go clubbing in of the largest clubbing districts world wide, shop up a storm in malls and local markets or take in the hipster vibes.
