Here's 14 for 2014.
14. Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang
A triple threat of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj lives up to the billing as great vocal ranges and quick-fire rap come together.
13. George Ezra - Budapest
This became an unlikely, but worthy summer hit for a unique voice.
12. Taylor Swift - Bad Blood
This saw Taylor go for a stadium rock anthem for the first time in this Katy Perry diss track from 1989.
11. Sam Smith - Stay With Me
Stay With Me is one of those perfect moment in pop. I didn't like Money On My Mind but Sam Smith's follow-up hit Stay With Me had heartache, emotion and a choir. Sam's vocals are pretty gorgeous too.
10. Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea - Problem
How does one break out from a child star past? Ariana Grande relaunched her pop career with the addictive Problem as she teamed up with Iggy.
9. Iggy Azalea ft. Charlie XCX - Fancy
Fancy has been avoidable in the second half of 2014 where the sassy party anthem sees Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX deliver a snapshot from a great night out.
8. Paolo Nutini - Iron Sky
Caustic Love was a grower for me but Iron Sky, with its intensity and passion might just be Paolo's greatest accomplishment to date.
7. Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat
Lorde was the break-through artist of 2013 with her debut, Pure Heroine and the teenage was given quite the responsibility when she was given the honor of curating the soundtrack for the latest Twlight film. Yellow Flicker Beat, the lead single is a sterling effort from the starlet.
6. Bleachers - I Wanna Get Better
Jack Antanoff is one of the finest song writers around at the moment. The New York cool dude is not only the guitarist for Fun. and penned a couple of tracks for Taylor Swift, he also has his own band, Bleachers and I Wanna Get Better is one fine alt-pop track that deserved a bigger response.
5. Paloma Faith - Only Love Can Hurt Like This
Paloma Faith has shown potential ever since she arrived on the scene but her quirky personality and flamboyant dress sense have overshadowed her music, well, until the elegant and moody Only Love Can Hurt Like This came along, bringing tears with its smooth and silky atmosphere.
4. Ed Sheeran - Sing
This was a game changer for Ed Sheeran. The unlikely pop star was set to risk it all with the 'difficult second album' as he dropped the singer-songwriter tag for this tune, co-written by Pharrell Williams which could have brought Justin Timberlake back to form as Ed hit the high notes and filled dance floors.
3. Taylor Swift - Blank Space
1989 is an album full of potential hits, from the very first listen Blank Space stood out. Lyrics such as 'darling I'm a nightmare, dressed like a daydream' couldn't come from anybody other than Swift who wonderfully mocks the perception of her own love life.
2. Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass
I stumbled across Meghan Trainor's break-through hit All About That Bass by accident on YouTube and couldn't believe my ears. It is perfect pop. Like Shake It Off it is annoyingly catchy, slightly sickly but all the best pop songs are. It also carries an empowering message about how females are portrayed by men and the media but it's that chorus that takes home the brownie points here.
1. Taylor Swift - Shake It Off
Could it have been anything else really? From the moment I first heard Shake It Off, the first single from 1989 I was obsessed. I played it on repeat until I could fall asleep, then again when I woke the following morning. A day hasn't gone by since when I haven't heard it, whether by choice or by chance, it has been everywhere, adverts, telly shows, the radio, I kind of feel sorry for those who hate hate hate it.
If Taylor needed a song to convince people that she could cut it as a out-and-out pop star shen came up trumps with this crazy good chart topper.
