The industry-filled party had already happened, the show wasn't live, if you wanted to know who was nominated it was no challenge in finding out, I was aware that Haim were up for a gong having seen the plea on Facebook for a vote.
I'm a sucker for any music-based tv show so I sat through it, hoping something interesting would pop up, sadly nothing really happened. In-between announcing nominations, which Bastille (I don't understand why Bastille even have a record deal!), Laura Mvula and Disclosure were up for more than they deserved there were live performances that felt flat and forced. Sam Smith deservedly won the Critics Choice Award (he's guaranteed a good 2014), the promising star came across as a lovely young chap, his voice is incredible but I really was put off by him performance, hope it was just nerves...
There was some positives: Arctic Monkeys, Tom Odell and David Bowie featured heavily in the shortlists and the likes of Lorde, Arcade Fire and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are in the running too but the 'biggest band in the world', One Direction only featured twice, bizarre.
This seems like a particularly weak year for the awards, which again will be hosted by James Corden who, actually, I don't mind. No doubt Bruno Mars, Arctic Monkeys and Katy Perry will put on entertaining performances but what the fuck has happened to British music! This is turning into a crisis.
