MSNBC Host Chats up Koch Bro’s in Coachella Valley

Toward the end of her show on Monday, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow started to talk about Palm Springs’ warm, spring-like weather. She quickly transitioned to the conservative Koch brothers.

Charles and David Koch are believed to have hosted a winter retreat with elite Republican donors this past weekend at the Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells. The billionaires started holding desert retreats in 2003.

Maddow focused on the men’s political fund-raising and their financial network. She also showed video footage of the so-called “Koch Busters Rally” in 2011 that was held outside the Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Ranch Mirage, where that year’s retreat was being held.

David and Charles Koch, who have a home at the Vintage in Indian Wells, are no strangers to controversy.

For example, in an editorial this past weekend, the New York Times accused Americans For Prosperity, a group organized and financed by the Koch brothers, of running an ad that is “full of distortions and lies” about Rep. Gary Peters, D-Mich., who is running for an open Senate seat.

The billionaires help finance Republican candidates and a conservative agenda. As a result, they’ve drawn the ire of many liberals.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, a liberal pundit, regularly reports on the Koch brothers and the size and complexity of their financial network.
