This weeks very Hipster/Indie offering comes from New York duo Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow who go by the title of MS MR. Active since 2011, the duo met at Vassar college where they both graduated in 2010, they released their first single in the US in 2012. iTunes have now unleashed this on the UK by way of single of the week.

An interesting mix of synthesised beat, natural melody and instrumental; Hurricane by Ms Mr combines the smokiness of Ellie Goulding, with the pointed punch style of Florence and the Machine. With a nudge in the direction of ‘Closer’ by Tegan and Sara, what the song lacks in substance of background melody it makes up for in the closeness of vocals. Hurricane is emotive and resonating, made all the more powerful by the careful structure, harnessing of the tones and the lyrical progression. There is a build of tension throughout thanks to expert layering, textural elements and a multitude of instrumental that prevents the track from falling flat.

The build up of echoing vocals during the chorus adds a perfect layering of peaks, before the stripped back bridge gives the track that much more force and power. It keeps the track full of drama and expression, an excellently produced three minute segment.

Quite a laid back indie, electro track that will not be to everyones taste but a track that certainly suits the nicer weather and will appeal to fans of Florence and the Machine, Lana Del Ray and Kavinsky. Definitely worth checking out.
