Where I Watched it: Peacock

English Audio Description?: Yes

Near me in Florida, there’s a massive retirement community where movie rules don’t apply. It’s an exclusive age controlled community, so often films that trend toward a younger audience either don’t open, or don’t stay open for very long. Meanwhile, films featuring a predominantly senior ensemble play forever. I don’t remember the title, but there was a film that opened and was still in release there so long that it had actually fallen out of Box Office Mojo’s tracking of all titles in release. It was like The Villages are trapped in their own bubble.

I feel like Mrs Harris Goes To paris did banner business there.

It’s not that I don’t enjoy films with characters of a certain age. I do. I love Grace and Frankie (as a TV Show), and I’ve enjoyed past efforts like Calendar Girls and Mrs. Henderson Presents. I didn’t go into this film expecting to feel nothing, but I did watch this film with someone from the obvious demographic, who loved it. So, who knows. I’m sure, based on everything I’ve heard, more people than me will enjoy it.

But for me, this film about a lady looking to be fulfilled by a dress did not fulfill me. It wasn’t that the film was bad, I almost had a neutral reaction to it. in a very weird way, I felt nothing except slightly bored. I wasn’t mad at it. The film has a great cast. It seems to have the potential to be charming, I just felt nothing.

The film has perfectly fine audio description, which it needs since the centric plot element is a dress, which means fashion comes very much into play here. i just, really was not moved. Maybe you will be.

Final Grade: C
