The Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court yesterday (7) ordered to remand the son and daughter-in-law of SJB Parliamentarian Dillip Wedaarachchi, who were arrested by the Weeraketiya Police for allegedly obstructing a police officer from carrying his duty at the Bedigama entrance of the Southern Expressway, until today (8).
The Magistrate ordered the two suspects to be produced for an identification parade.
The son of MP Dilip Wedaarachchi, former Tangalle Mayor Ravindu Wedaarachchi, and his wife were arrested by the Weeraketiya Police on June 6 after they surrendered to the police. Police were looking for several days to arrest Ravindu Wedaarachchi and his wife Nethmi Silva who were on the run after engaging in an altercation with a police officer at the Bendigama Interchange on the Southern Expressway.
The couple engaged in a heated argument with a police officer when they were prevented from entering the Expressway on the grounds that they were transporting a refrigerator loaded precariously on their pickup truck.
The police Sergeant has lodged a complaint with the Weeraketiya Police in this regard.
