Mozilla Firefox OS Looks Stunning, Can It Beat Android?

Mozilla, the creator of the famous Firefox web-browser is now preparing to dominate the world of smartphones with their own unique mobile operating system called Firefox OS. Just like all the other Mozilla products, this one will also be an open operating system. But will it ever be able to challenge Google’s Android OS ?

According to Mashable, the initial build version of Firefox OS is “still a little buggy”. And the company is currently conducting a research in Brazil to figure out the use of smartphones in the country to improve this OS.

Although, previews of the Firefox OS shows a visually appealing interface with a simplified home screen and an app grid that looks a lot like iOS. Browsing contents also seems very easy with its’ large thumbnail views for photos, videos and even for music.  Combining the latest HTML5 technology, Mozilla has improved most of the functions on Firefox OS to perform as good as other mobile operating systems in the market.

Mozilla plans to release its’ first Firefox OS-powered devices in 2013 by partnering with ZTE and TCL. Considering the freshness of this new OS, these devices will probably head out with a cheap price tag.

Still, it wont make a big impact on the mobile market. Even if Firefox OS manages to improve things in three or four years, they will never reach the level of Android because by then Google will be way out of range. So, I think all the devoted Android users are safe for now. But, on the other hand it’s always nice to have a competition in the market.

Mozilla has now released a prototype version of the OS. You can try it out without installing it on a mobile phone. Share a comment and let us know what you think about Mozilla’s new approach.
