May have just found a woman that is about as tough or even tougher than Sonny Chiba. Yes folks it’s time to continue the Street Fighter series and today is Sister Street Fighter. Get ready to get karate chopped to death. HIYA!
Regular Chiba sidekick Sue Shiomi as Tina Long, a tough martial arts expert who agrees to go undercover for the Hong Kong police when her policeman brother, Lee (Hiroshi Miyauchi), disappears during an anti-drug operation. She enlists the help of her brother’s karate school, which includes the expert fighter Sonny Kawasaka (Chiba). Together, Tina and Sonny go up against a formidable drug lord and an army of martial artists, each with their own deadly skill. In the process, she uncovers some dark secrets about her family. God I love these movies and Sue Shiomi can fucking whoop ass like the best of them. Sister Street Fighter is basically the same as the other Street Fighter movies which have a plot but are more focused on delivering insane amount of ass kicking fight scenes and total brutality. This is an incredible awesome action film for any martial arts fan and especially if you want to see both Sonny Chiba and Sue Shiomi team up for incredible action sequences. The fights are intense and Sue Shiomi is basically deadly with everything she touches. Shit some fork becomes a throwing star in her hands with insane accuracy. She is just impaling dozens of thugs with their own weapons and dispensing vengeance upon everyone. She is the female version of Sonny Chiba folks.
My favorite aspect of these 60/70′s martial arts film is that the plot centers around some guy with an army of martial artists at his disposal. That is like basic bad guy 101 rules you need to go by. Either you have a literal army with guns or you have a martial arts school with about as many people in it as an army would have. You got to love that fact because it means that we will witness supreme amounts of roundhouses to the head and groin.
Sister Street Fighter is light on the plot but heavy on the action like its previous predecessor. Sue Shiomi is incredibly talented as a fighter and action actress, so see this little, petite ball of fury just lay waste to dozens of guys is something to behold. She has the looks, the chops, and the skill to keep up with Sonny Chiba and frankly they turned in a fantastic action movie that spawned two additional sequels. But I will get to those at a later date. Martial Arts fans, you gotta see this.
