Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela ordered yesterday (4)a mother who was arrested by the Grandpass Police and produced in court in connection with an incident of burning the private parts of her daughter
who is a minor and cousin by heating up an aluminum spoon, for not heeding warnings, be remanded until April 10.
Police informed the court that the two girls who are minors and suffered serious burns in the incident are currently undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
Counsel who appeared before the court on behalf of the suspect mother, said that the suspect’s daughter was engaging in an unnatural sexual relationship and despite the mother having warned her several times about it, the suspect did this because she continued to do so. In the court it was revealed that after the mother caught her daughter engaged in such a relationship with her sister’s daughter despite being warned, she heated the aluminum spoon on the gas stove and burned the private parts of the girls.
The suspect was arrested by the police following a complaint made by the hospital police. A woman from Sedawatta, Wellampitiya was remanded in custody and the suspect was produced in court under the charge of burning the private parts of two 11-year-old girls and abusing them.
