Story: Mother May I starts when Emmett (Gallner) takes his fiancée Anya (Roden) to his childhood home after his estranged mother’s death. It is the first time he has returned to the home after he was abandoned at a young age. Anya looks to challenge Emmett to address his own deepest traumas.
How
ever, this takes a strange turn, when Anya starts acting like Emmett’s estranged mother. Emmett goes through an emotional rollercoaster searching for answers. This pushes their relationship to a new level as they both struggle with reality.Verdict on Mother May I?
Mother May I is a horror thriller following a grieving son that returns to his estranged mother’s home. He is joined by his fiancée as they look to resolve traumas from his childhood. However, things end up getting worse, as Anya starts learning more about Emmett’s mother.
This is a horror that explores trauma and the damage it can cause people. It shows the different effects it has on people and leads a couple down a deranged path. There is a constant feeling of unease throughout the movie and this leads to each scene offering a surprise. It gives us a bigger discussion about dealing with trauma while relying on tension over pure scares. The performances are strong as both Kyle Gallner and Holland Roden carry the movie with their performance.
