Compared to some generations ago, there’s so much available on the air waves that one can easily get confused over what to watch. However, a good review will always come in handy. Here are some of the popular television shows that graced the air ways in 2014:

Mad Men

This is the story of a self-made advertisement executive who runs one of the New York City’s most prestigious advertising agencies. His name is Don Draper and his Ad agency is located in New York City’s Madison Avenue. His secretary, Peggy Olson is an upwardly mobile former secretary. Draper, acted by Jon Hamm is an enigma whose happiness seems to be continuously hampered by his childhood. Peggy, acted by Elizabeth Moss, is depicted as an overly terse in her manner of interaction. Both of them are the main actors in this drama. Initially, Draper’s advert agency is very successful but as time went by, the advert industry grew and competition becomes much stiffer. Draper’s agency do all they can to survive but the times are characterized by economic turbulence. The drama is set in New York during the 1960s.

The West Wing

This is the story of a fictional president, Jed Bartlett, acted by Martin Sheen as he along with his staff, fight various battles, some political and others personal all through his two-time tenure as president. This is most certainly one of the very best political dramas of all time and it has received critical acclaim from the White House for its accuracy. The story is skillfully unfolded over seven seasons. Aaron Sorkin’sultra-sharp dialog adds to its viewing impetus.

House of Cards

House of cards traces the story of a political juggernaut, Francis Underwood, as he bulldozes his way up to the upper echelons of power in the United States political space. Francis Underwood is the Majority whip in the US Senate who uses every known political trick at his disposal along with his political clout to unseat his opponents and work his way to the top. Francis Underwood is acted by Kevin Spacey and his partnership with an environmental lobbyist, Claire, is a classic in power-driven, manipulative team work. Claire is played by Robin Wright.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is about a High School Chemistry Teacher, Walter White, who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. His cancer is in the late stages and he becomes desperate to ensure his family’s financial security before he dies. His desperation leads him to use his knowledge of chemistry to produce and sell a type of narcotics called premium blue meth. He teams up with wasted Jesse Pinkman who was one of his former students. Brian Cranston plays Walter White while Aaron Paul plays Pinkman. This movie reeks with moral issues and is as addictive as the narcotics cooked by its main protagonist.

Friday Night Lights

This movie is about a high school football team based in Dillion Texas, a fictional town. The movie is a concoction of a variety of social and family issues that are typical of heartland in America. Issues like family issues, racism, drugs and all the complex issues associated with adolescent high school kids. The outstanding part of this movie is its apparent realistic rendition of American inner life and the cinematography that goes with it.

Heroes

‘Heroes’ tells the story of a group of people who find out that they possess extraordinary powers. These powers include the ability to read people’s minds and to regenerate damaged or cut off body parts.A group of ordinary or non-gifted people, who see these ‘abnormal’ people as threats, attempt to eliminate them. This movie relies much on visual effects and actually has the feel of a comic book.
