Now that I completed the backgrounds on two new paintings, I worked on the foreground separately. I decided to continue the pattern of lighter colors in the center, moving outward to darker colors on the edges. This is in contrast to my previous two paintings, where I painted the final pattern of dark to light going from top to bottom and bottom to top.
Rather than beginning the center with cadmium yellow light again, I started with cobalt green, drawing a pattern in the center of the canvas from top to bottom. While the paint was still wet, I used a small brush dipped in glaze medium to fill in the drawn shapes, adding more paint as necessary. This is a time consuming process, and I managed to get through three colors before stopping for the day: cobalt green, brilliant blue, and cobalt.
