More Trouble for The ‘Roseanne’ Series

Cancellations begin today on all Viacom Networks.

Roseanne Barr has always been known for pushing buttons when it came to her humor. However, due to a social media outcry from her recent tweet about Valerie Jarrett, she is learning a hard lesson at the expense of her career and those of her cast and crew.

As of today, May 30th, it will be hard to find any episode of Roseanne on TV. Viacom announced Tuesday that it will drop all past episodes, that originally ran from 1988-97, from their lineups on CMT, TV Land, and Paramount Network. Hulu followed suit after a spokesman spoke out saying that they will drop the series in support of ABC’s decision to cancel the current running of the show.

It did not end there as Laff broadcast network also took to saying that it would drop all past episodes from their lineup. They released a statement on Tuesday saying,

“While we believe viewers have always distinguished the personal behavior of the actress Roseanne Barr from the television character Roseanne Connor, we are disgusted by Barr’s comments this week. Therefore, we are removing the original Roseanne series from the Laff schedule for the time being, effective immediately.”

The backlash from her original tweet caused a lot of headache for the actress. It started with the cancellation from ABC and losing her consulting partner, Wanda Sykes, who turned in her resignation, to Barr losing her contract with her talent agency, ICM Partners, to cancellation of all rebroadcasts of the older seasons of Roseanne

While Barr did come back to Twitter to apologize, after saying that she was leaving the social platform, multiple networks did not find the joke in the best of taste. Many tweeting that they all supported ABC’s decision.

Even the people she worked with found the joke tasteless, as seen in Sara Gilbert’s tweet.

“Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.”

She also came back, after it was announced the show was canceled, to say,

“This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love – one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.”

Sadly, the cast will have to find other jobs when they thought their current positions were secure since the series had originally been renewed for a second season after the record-breaking numbers that tuned in for their pilot episode.
