The “stand your ground” self-defense laws in Florida and two dozen other states allow individuals to defend themselves without requiring them to attempt to evade or retreat from a dangerous situation.
Although his attorneys did not employ the “stand your ground” law in their defense of George Zimmerman in his recent trial for second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin — for which Zimmerman was fully acquitted by the jury — that hasn’t stopped Stevie Wonder from making an issue of Florida’s “stand your ground” law.
A week ago, our DCG posted about entertainer Stevie Wonder declaring that he won’t perform again in Florida until the state repeals that law.
Justin Sink reports for The Hill, July 22, 2013, that some of the music industry’s biggest acts are joining Wonder in his boycott of Florida.
A source “close to” Wonder told American Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan that music “artists” who are joining Wonder include, in alphabetical order:
- Jay Z
- R. Kelly
- Alicia Keys
- Madonna
- Rihanna
- Rod Stewart
- Justin Timberlake
- Trey Songz
- Usher
- Wale
- Kanye West
- Young Jeezy
Bruce Springsteen dedicated a song to “justice for Trayvon Martin” during a concert in Limerick, Ireland; while Jay Z and Beyonce met with Martin’s parents during a rally in New York City.
According to Ryan’s report, some of the recording artists have already canceled shows in the Sunshine State.

So Stevie Wonder, et al., are boycotting Florida?
Two can play the game.
I now vow that I will NEVER EVER contribute even one penny of my hard-earned and hard-saved money toward any of the above lists of “entertainers.” That should be an easy vow to keep because I don’t listen to or buy their “music,” or watch their TV shows or movies anyway.
