More Creative Things to Do With Travel Photos

Winter is the perfect time to get stuck into a project you’ve been putting off – especially if it’s a project that gets you reminiscing about exotic places and past adventures. This time of year has got me thinking about more creative things to do with travel photos and how I can make the most of the ones I’ve taken.

I’ve talked before about how sad it is for travel photos, or indeed any photos, to sit unloved and unlooked at on a hard drive somewhere. But even after sharing my ideas for creative things to do with travel photos, and with so many good intentions, I’m still as guilty as ever of chucking them all into a folder and turning my attention towards planning my next trip.

But, as I say, winter is a good nudge to get things going again! For this project, I teamed up with Epson to try out one of their fabulous photo printers, the Epson Expression Photo XP-960. It prints amazing, high quality images and has so many features that I’ve barely begun to dip into. I also know I’ll be using it ALL the time. Now, to be completely honest, I discovered that the easiest way to set up the printer was to go out for the day and leave my boyfriend at home alone with it. If that’s no an option for you, then Epson have a very handy online step-by-step guide to make it super simple.

Travel photos by their nature can be so diverse. Creating a themed series is a great way to present them. It also allows you to give each series its own unique identity. There are so many ways you can do this:

  • By subject

Over the past couple of years I’ve taken some trips that have really allowed me to get up close to the local wildlife. I find wildlife photography is right up there with food photography in terms of difficulty, but I’m still very pleased with some of the images I have managed to capture (not so much with the hundreds that didn’t make the cut for this project!).

At the moment I’m working on a wildlife gallery wall for my stairwell with vivid pictures in different sized frames. Having a photo printer at home makes it so much easier to experiment with sizes and add to it over time. Here’s the work in progress – I’ll share more once it’s all been mounted:

  • By colour

Being able to match your photos with your room’s color palette is such a wonderful way to add an incredibly personal yet tasteful touch. I previously created a blue-and-yellow themed gallery wall for my living and am planning to swap in some newer photos from different trips to keep things fresh. I did say I was going to be printing non-stop!

  • By country

An alternative way to curate a series of photos is by choosing photos from one country or destination. Although the images may end up wildly different, that’s part of the appeal as you can show off the diversity. In one room of my house, I’ve solely chosen to feature photos I took in Iceland. Here’s the latest addition made with the Epson Expression Photo XP-960:

What’s your favorite creative way to display your photos? Or are you guilty of never opening the folders?
