Mohanthal (Gram Flour Fudge)

By Tejal Hewitt @Tejal_x

Gujarati mohanthal is a sweetened gram flour fudge flavoured with saffron and nuts.

This is a tricky recipe to master – and as this was my first try I slightly undercooked the gram flour mix but slight tasted good!

This was something that I never thought I’d make let alone to eat it. However the older I get the more creative I’m getting.

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp milk
Pinch of saffron
1/2 Tsp cardamom
1/2 Cup of Ghee
1 1/2 Cup of Besam Flour ( Gram flour)
1/2 Can of Condensed Milk
1/2 Cup of chopped pistachios and almonds

In a small cup add warm milk, cardamom and saffron

Heat the ghee in a pan

Add the gram flour

Stir until it goes brown ( I didn’t cook as long as I should have – I still liked the taste of it!). If you keep stirring it will become dough like and as soon as you stop it will become a liquid.

Add condensed milk and cardamom saffron milk

Stir until the mixture forms a soft dough and comes away from the pan

Put the mixture into a lined greased dish and press down

Add chopped nuts over the top

Spread the nuts and press into the mohanthal and allow to cool

Cut in the small pieces and enjoy
