Do you have wanderlust? Do you love to travel, and make memories in foreign locations? Are you one that longs to get away from it all, even if it's a stay-cation? In all of your journeys, have you ever been somewhere simply AMAZING and wanted to commemorate that memory with a piece of art, but didn't want something kitschy from some tourist trap?
Or maybe, do you take pride in where you live, and want something to display your love you have for the place you live, but couldn't think of something that would do it justice? Or maybe, like me, you're not the type to want a bunch of blue crabs or Natty Boh man all over your place, a popular motif here in Baltimore.
Well, I've got the solution to your decorating woes and desires. Enter Modern Map Art. I was approached by an artist a couple of weeks ago regarding her web shop, ModernMapArt.com , a place where city grids and imagery combined with a cities colors come together to create simplistic yet beautiful posters and art that look good in anyone's home or office.
ModernMapArt takes your favorite cities, mountains, and places and turns them into beautiful works of art. If you're looking for the perfect way to remember that trip to Europe, honeymoon, place you got engaged, your alma mater, hometown, or anything else, these maps are a great way to display that nostalgia in your home. They make great gifts, too!
After I took a look at her shop, I knew exactly what I wanted: A map of Baltimore, of course! And after conferring with my husband, we agreed on a color scheme. Since the whole deal is customizable, we decided to go with the official purple hex color for the Baltimore Ravens, (which by the way is #280353) and white. I mean, why not?
After only a few days since placing the order, and some really friendly interactions with the artist/customer service, our map arrived. Hooray! Since it comes in a cardboard poster tube, I had to lay it flat for a couple of days under some heavier objects in order to get the remaining curl out. After finding a simple frame from our local craft store, and getting the poster into the frame, I couldn't WAIT to get it up on our wall! It was PERFECT, and exactly what we'd hoped to get. I loved it. I still love it. We all do.
Simple. Beautiful. Stylish. This map is a sleek tribute to our home of Baltimore, and adds some pizazz to our den space which doubles as a play room for the kids. It's a great conversation stater too. I am toying with the idea of getting an Austin, TX one, too, to pay homage to the place where our family began. But maybe I'll get a pillow instead? We shall see.
But yes, I did say pillow! That's right! You can get not only wall art, but couch/chair art too in the form of pillows, which look really cool, I might add. And there's phone cases too, if you want to go that route. Any way you go, you'll have a pretty sweet recognition of a place you love in a way you'll adore. I'm excited to know about Modern Map Art, and hope that you are too!
If there were a place you'd like to memorialize on your wall, couch or phone, what would it be? What's the memory you want to preserve? Disclaimer: I received my Baltimore map from Modern Map Art free of charge, and was not obligated to write a review. However, because I was happy with everything about the experience I had, I chose to review the product and the company. All opinions are 100% my own. Also, this post contains an affiliate link.
