In spite of challenging times in the traditional retailers, online shopping is boosting with visitors to internet retailers up 27% in the 2nd quarter of this year.
The recent BRC-Google retail industry monitor discovered that the rise in online shopping volumes has been pushed by individuals searching for online retailers using their mobile devices. This kind of mobile phone search amounts were up 216% year-on-year.
The increase of online search quantities for multi-channel stores (using high street shops and online stores) achieved 14% in the 2nd quarter of 2011, compared to 21% for only online stores.
Stephen Robertson, director general of the British Retail Consortium, stated: “ Although the retail industry in general is in a challenging time, the growth in online retail carries on.
“The star performer is mobile devices, using the amount of retail searches being performed on mobile phones and tablet pcs more than threefold in this quarter compared to the same period in 2010. Shoppers are constantly searching for easier solutions to shop.
“Retailers are making m-commerce easier continuously by providing mobile optimised websites, apps and transactional mobile platforms.”
