I was awoken by the sound of my Mum’s flip-flops flip-flopping their way to the bathroom, flip-flopping their way back, then flipping somewhere else and finally flopping back onto the floor when she went back into bed – cue daughter to go and make a cup of lemon tea, with exactly six teaspoons of the stuff in a small cup and only just more than half filled with boiling water; it’s taken me a good 5 years to perfect it because this is a lady who knows exactly what she likes. And I think she liked it this morning – phew! We spread-eagled on her bed and I bestowed upon her a glorious card of incredible craftsmanship and wondrous poetry – i.e. I finally managed to find a lovely card made by my friends Mark & Spencer that was worthy enough to give to the woman who gave birth to me, who I subsequently spend practically every hour of every day with and who I love something rotten and could not live without. Ever. The poetry came free of charge too! Written by yours truly with a sprinkle of love and a whirlwind of memories – i.e. I rambled on a bit and tried to tell my Mama in as concise a way as possible just how much she means to me. This is difficult when you only have a small amount of free space in a card and you’re worried that your hand writing will ruin it all anyway. But I persevered, she smiled, I sighed relief and we re-laxed. That’s a special version of relaxing that is only possible on Sundays.
After our re-laxing tea break we leisurely set about putting our slap on and all of those other girly things that we like to do before we go out. When we were all (surprisingly) ready on time, I was dropped off to head to the pub with my Grandmother and Grandfather dearests. Ma & Pa headed to get Nana dearest. Oh how lovely, eh? Not exactly when the entire world sees to be shrouded in mist and there is no sign of a way out. But nevertheless we carried on up the coast, where it still refused to disperse and eventually crawled up to the pub when we managed to find it through all the fog. Me? A Drama Queen? No!
Our pub of choice was the Red Lion in Alnmouth, the food is top notch and the staff are a lovely friendly bunch. You’ll be well served, well stuffed and rather merry by the time you leave. Sunday lunch is a must, but I forgot to take pictures, so I guess I’ll just have to come back ASAP and have it all again because I can’t leave you without pictures of the food, can I?
I’ll show you round and maybe on a Sunny day I’ll take you to see the beach.
