Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that there is no truth in the fact that the President of Sri Lanka spent money in this country for the Speaker of the Maldives to go abroad.

Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam stated that there is no truth in the statement of Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman that President Ranil Wickremesinghe spent money in Sri Lanka for the Speaker of the Maldives to go abroad. The MP also said that the country should recover from this crisis situation as a nation and the basic foundation for that has been presented in this year’s budget.

The MP was speaking during the debate on the Second Reading of the Budget. MP Mujibar Rahman made a statement that the President arranged to take the Speaker of the Maldives abroad after paying money from Sri Lanka. I looked into this. It is a baseless blatant lie.

As politicians, we should not make such false accusations.“As far as I have come to know, the Maldivian Speaker was supposed to go abroad to ask for some money from Mujibur Rahman and after MP Mujibur Rahman spent the money to bring the people to allegedly hoot at Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, he had no money left to give the money to the Maldivian Speaker. This is the situation I found out.” Kariyawasam said.
