Mind is Master?

By Imagineer @ImagineerTeam

We’re often asked to decide whether we are driven more by our minds or our hearts, by rationality or instinct.  There was a time when I would have said that I was driven primarily by my mind.  Now, I recognise that very few people can live up to that claim, and those that can are seldom happy folk.  Rational thought has its place, of course, but it should never function in isolation!

Creativity is a function of both imagination and rationality, the first providing the concept, the spark, and the second enabling the translation of the abstract into a concrete form.  It should encompass our totality in the sense of drawing on all the aspects of thought we are capable of, according to need.  This takes place most commonly in writing and art, both of which are barren when without any emotional content.  Presenting only the rational will offer the world only a cold desert.

One area where Mind can definitely prove to be master is in our need to create.  We can, and often do, suffer surprisingly powerful torment when we defy the drive to be creative.  Personally, I used to experience migraines when I resisted putting aside time for writing.  Now, I’m more likely to become depressed and irritable.  By obeying the drive, we are spared these torments.  It is perfectly logical.  If we are hungry, we eat.  If we are thirsty, we drink.  If we are tired, we rest.  In creativity, if the spark is struck, we should act on it.  It is only sensible.
