Mickey Spillane’s famous detective (embodied for all of us by the great Stacy Keach) first appeared in the book I, the Jury in 1947 and in time, became a legend just like Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe and Dashiel Hammet’s Sam Spade. These are iconic hard-boiled men, hunting one crime after another, accompanied by lonesome sax solos, a different femme fatale each time and lots of booze, oft under a wet street light and in a deserted city night. Hammer was a archetypal tough guy\private eye, a physical solitary man who had no qualms killing those who escaped justice.
Warner Bros. Pictures, Film 360 and Thunder Road have acquired the film rights to the Mickey Spillane mystery novel series featuring Mike, although yet it’s undecided which book to adapt first, and whether to keep the books period or update it to a more contemporary setting.
Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Basil Iwanyk and Ken Levin will produce.
Hopefully Hollywood won’t butcher Mikey like they did so many others.
