Mike Donovan – “New Fieldhand Bop”

“New Fieldhand Bop” might be the most laid back call to arms against American greed and environmental mercantilism that I’ve ever heard. Guitars lull about and tickle one another in a distinct stereo mix, as a loose rhythm section consisting of little more than a single tambourine keeps relative time in the distant background. Donovan’s voice is honeyed and peaceful, but not without weight and substance. When he sings “I don’t want money, because I’ve got these melodies” you can almost see him sitting on a porch with an acoustic guitar, shouting into the Appalachian mountains.
